Kentucky Migrant Population Info


 A Kentucky Teacher recently wrote an article about our population. They interviewed migrant staff asking what teachers should know about this population. This article may be helpful.
 If you want the teachers to understand about the migrant education program, a short video concerning its history is available on you tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DckPww8V-Ck . It is called “The History of Migrant Education.” This video puts into perspective how the program was developed.
 We have some handbooks and other information available on the KDE webpage: http://www.education.ky.gov/kde/administrative+resources/federal+programs+and+instructional+equity/title+programs/title+i+part+c+education+of+migratory+children . On this webpage there is a link to all our newsletters. Information found in these newsletters pertains to districts with or without migrant programs. You can also look at our CNA which is our comprehensive needs assessment. This is the basis for the migrant education program in Kentucky. Each state has to have a needs assessment where they see what the specific needs of the migrant families are. This document may be beneficial.
 Fall Academy- This is where people typically associated with working with migrant families attends. September 5-6 are the main days for the fall academy. There will be sessions on 21st century collaboration, title III collaboration, Parent Advisory Council, summer programming, IPADS, and servicing out of school youth (OSY). September 5th it will be from 8:30-4:30 at the Embassy Suites 10 Eastside Blvd. Covington, KY. The teachers are welcome to attend. The conference deals with helping the migrant population.
